Established 1976 — four Montessori schools, one not-for-profit family.
1976
Founded by Elizabeth Ferguson and Mona Stephens — licensed not-for-profit under CCEYA.
Programs
From licensed home child care to Family Resource drop-in and before/after school care.
2003
Four Downtown Montessori schools for children ~12 months to six years — CWELCC & ONCA registered.
Downtown Montessori creates a space unlike the rest of the world — warmth, richness and hyper-organization.
Leadership
I have been part of DCC/DTMS since 2002 — teaching, leading as Program Manager, supporting Home Child Care, and now serving as Director of Administration. Meaningful relationships with children, families, and educators inspire me every day.
My leadership journey has allowed me to guide programs, support educators, and strengthen partnerships. I remain committed to our nonprofit mission while fostering an environment where children and educators thrive.
What I value most is witnessing learning come to life. I welcome your thoughts, feedback, and collaboration.

Even after 48 years, I realize how lucky I am. Some children grew up to teach here. Others return as parents. Many staff have stayed for decades — places people simply love to be.
I became a grandmother many times over while influencing hundreds of kids. Numeracy, literacy, problem solving, conflict resolution, active citizenry — skills that stay into adulthood. I feel fortunate to have been part of it all.
